Hmmm....no answer from PPP. I think he'd like to tell us, but then, he'd have to kill us. And he'd have to spend the rest of his life just trying to FIND us!

Thanks everyone for the kind regards. The term "compartive cognition" is really just a shorter way of saying the psychological and neuropsychological study of varying species (humans included). And the use of the term "cognition" in the title is really a misnomer since most of the theoretical basis for everything done in this field nowadays boils down to associative mechanisms which can be understood at the level of neuro-physical structures which are influenced by environmental, genetic, and evolutionary factors. So the lab will research things like various kinds of associative learning in humans and animals, category formation, navigation, social learning, animal communication, animal intelligence, animal problem solving, and a host of other diverse areas. My job is simply to maintain and run the experiments on a daily basis and keep the lab in working order. The great thing about this job is not so much that it is full time employment (which is a nice change), but that it will provide me with a wealth of experience when I go to apply for graduate studies next fall.
Here is a few examples of some comparative cognition research
This Friday night I’d like to post about Shostakovich’s ballet music. The great composer wrote four fantastic ballet suites, where we can find an exuberant melodic ability with fascinating musical developments. Although this kind of music could be considered like a lighter music compared to other works, I think these suites are still the proper music from a genius.
Like a little example, here’s the first movement of the fourth suite. I hope you like it.
Recaredo, the Shostakovich blew me away. All I'd heard of his was Symphony no. 9 (not exactly gripping stuff).
I must investigate further.
It makes this choice feel a bit paltry but I'm sticking it in anyway. I found myself singing it at work today. It wasn't on in the car so I don't know what brought it on. I used to play it in the band in the mid seventies. Don't know when I last heard it.

Also, consider that it's around 2pm in London. Sister Sledge is probably just the kind of pick me up Eglantine might need as she's repainting those 5 Victorian doors and door frames.
It's about 8am here in Minneapolis. I normally wouldn't start my morning with such exuberant dance music. However, I'll make an exception today to help Eglantine dance right through the painting project.
