Oh yes, it's definitely the speakers that find the low frequencies from acoustic bass mixed with the full range of the piano a little too much to retain clarity.

Just a thought , but did you also consider the SL Numa Concert ? Being just under 20kg it's a tad heavier than the FP50 , but it has a triple sensor wooden keybed and the AP sounds nice. Plus a few controller options that the FP's lack. There are new sound demo's on their YouTube channel demonstrating , among others, the decay phase of the notes in all registers and also the dynamic expression. It's a pretty compact design too.unfortunately quite expensive over here (€ 1730 vs € 1499 in fatar Homeland Italy). Don't know how much it would cost in the US. Pricing is a strange beast.
A bit apples and pears, I know, but since you're always looking for something with pretty good action and good , dynamic AP sounds in a compact , preferably lightweight design...

The Numa Concert is $1,999 here in the States. It has some very appealing qualities, and I was impressed by the demos, but it also has one very unappealing aspect that begins with an "S" and ends with a "c"... I wouldn't trade either my Nord Piano or my SV-1 for the Concert, and so it'll probably remain just a curiosity for me. However, I'm looking forward to reading comments about it here as people begin to try it out.

@stourot, no I haven't changed anything yet, and I probably won't as I dislike fiddling with the sound. The only thing I might be tempted to do is to brighten up the sound a little, but to be honest I am reasonably content with the Roland SN sound out of the box, even though it can seem a little too dark and muffled sometimes.
What I find is that I don't get the same kind of "sample fatigue" with SN that I do with some other brands, and so am content to leave it alone, and learn to appreciate it for what it is.

thanks Find the FP-50 owner's manual on the Roland website. It will have the answer. I know, for the FP-80, it's "Yes". . charles

These are the acoustic piano parameters you can change (taken from the manual):
Stretch (Stretch Tuning) OFF, ON
This lets you specify the amount of “stretch tuning,†a tuning method specifically for pianos, in which the high range is tuned slightly sharper, and the low range is tuned slightly flatter.
If you select “ON,†a standard tuning curve created for the FP-50 will be used.
Dmpr Res (Damper Resonance) OFF, 1–10
This adjusts the damper resonance of the acoustic piano sound (the sympathetic vibration produced in strings other than those actually played when you press the damper pedal).
Higher settings will make the sympathetic vibration louder.
Strg Res (String Resonance) OFF, 1–10
This adjusts the string resonance of the acoustic piano sound (the sympathetic vibrations of strings for previously played notes that occur when you play another note).
Higher settings will make the sympathetic vibration louder.
KOff Res (Key Off Resonance) OFF, 1–10
This adjusts sympathetic vibrations such as an acoustic piano’s key-off sound (the subtle sound that occurs when you release a note).
Higher settings will make the sympathetic vibration louder.
Cabinet (Cabinet Resonance) OFF, 1–10
Adjusts the body resonance of the grand piano itself.
Higher values will produce a larger body resonance.
Sound Brd (Soundboard Behavior) OFF, 1–10
When you play a chord, this setting improves the clarity of the individual notes in the chord, creating a more beautiful resonance.
Higher settings produce a clearer resonance.

Higher settings produce a clearer resonance. I believe these two effects are missing in the RD-700NX, which I find annoying. The NX processor might be too wimpy to include them in a SW update, or more likely Roland doesn't want to invest the development $ to add them now. We really need an open DP platform, I'm so tired of DP manufacturers artificially holding us back. For example, HP calculator users took the bull by the horns and repurposed the ~$30 HP-30B, giving loyal users the very thing HP for some reason won't/can't do: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wp34s/IMO, excellent software is too expensive to pay for, so to get it you need people who really care doing it in their spare time.

Hi Everyone! Got my fp50 2 days ago and I'm enjoying it. Been using Roland Gears for sometime (10 years - experienced faulty keys on the EM series and the frustrating cut off problems with the Juno G) and I can say that the fp50 delivers I'm really glad I can still play my MIDIS that I sequenced from my Juno G and what's surprising is that the sounds are better in the fp50. Anyway I'm new to this community and I know I will learn a lot from you guys Have a great one!!!

Songs sequenced (MIDI multi-tibral mode) and stored as MIDI files, perhaps? Either system exclusive to Roland or some kind of general midi file, probably
Roland HP 302 / Samson Graphite 49 / Akai EWI
Reaper / Native Instruments K9 ult / ESQL MOR2 Symph Orchestra & Choirs / Lucato & Parravicini , trumpets & saxes / Garritan CFX lite / Production Voices C7 & Steinway D compact
Focusrite Saffire 24 / W7, i7 4770, 16GB / MXL V67g / Yamaha HS7s / HD598
