I am back in the Piano World forums after a long time away. I remember seeing a place on the website where people could indicate that they had played that day. It seemed to serve as a slightly competitive way to hold each other accountable to spend time at the keyboard every day. Does anyone know if this still exists?

Also check out the new FOYD (Focus on Your Domain). Members regularly post what and how they plan to practice so as to promote sticking to a schedule and practicing efficiently.

Just for your info MOYD is closed for this year. No one can sign up after 30 September.
The idea is that is meant to be a goal for the year. I don't know why the originators set 30 Sept as the cut off date, but I've just maintained it.

Interesting that you say it was mildly competitive...I think that aspect has changed since you last participated.

The best way of "forcing" practice (we all can be lazy at times) are the various recitals ongoing. There`s a Tchaikovski a Joplin and a Chopin one happening at the moment (Chopin`s to be found on "Pianist Corner") and there are pieces still to be allocated!

Welcome back. It is easy to be accountable, if you have a piano, a desire, and some music.

The secret enemy is time. If you get up, go to work/school/whatever, come home have dinner, go practice and go to bed - for me - and the rest of the world - on a good day, it is 3 to 4 hours - at best.

So playing with time or fighting with the enemy - time - is where the winning comes in!

The other thing I have is the Door Rule. Whenever I go inside or outside my shack, I play the piece I am working before leaving and playing the piece when I come back - get inside the shack. It works because most pieces are a page and can be played within a minute whether you have a digital or an acoustic - at anytime of the day or night. And if you don't have a piano at all - at the very least - you can always write the C scale in the bass clef with syncopation so you can aways be making one step forward at all times.
