Hi

I just made a cheap upright Action cradle from a few things I had lying around at home and some bits from the hardware store.

It cost me $35

I know this probably won't excite you folk from the US but here in Australia they cost about $300.

However, if anyone is interested send me a private message and I will email you some photos.

A lot of people have requested the photos.

If there are any DIY type engineering hacks out there, it would be great for you guys to cast your eye over this to see if there are some simple improvements.

Perhaps between us all we could come up with a cheap and effective home made action cradle?

I clamp sticks to the action frames that hold the action where I need it. It takes a few small c-clamps and some wood.

I made this custom for my action. It is not universal. Stands are free to be moved about separately. Threaded rod into a 1" by 4" would have been better if they were into a 2x4. A bit more flexibility that I like. Posts sit on a short 1/2" bolt up from the bottom and ground off to a round ball like fit to the action brackets. Works.

Tuneless = Don't play piano(yet) and couldn't tune a guitar, much less a piano.
I'm technically very capable. I love my piano and love tinkering with it.

Thanks for everyones ideas.
I have a finished action stand.

Upside -
Very strong, stable, fully rotatable, and height adjustable.
Cheap.
So far works great, could highly recommend it at this stage.

Downside -
No good for transportation but great in a workshop environment. Also need to knock up a wooden jig for each action. (took me 1/2 an hour)

Total cost in Australia about $25-$35 depending on if you get the stands on special at supercheap auto wink

Thanks again to everyone who messaged me or posted with a suggestion.

Ben
