A year ago today I lined up for the start of a 100 mile ultra marathon race with a plan in my head. Don’t die, and when the race is finished go and buy a piano and learn to play it properly.

After the race and a bit of a sleep I did go and buy that piano although it would be several days before I could walk properly and sit at the piano without pain. Regardless of the exact date, today is my anniversary of one year along my piano adventure. So began a fantastic year, although full of the ups and downs I am sure we are familiar with. While I may have had some expectations it has taken a year to comprehend the enormity of the journey and to start to formulate a more informed plan for the future.

So now I have passed the first test and have an artistic licence, time to use it:

“There are known knowns; there are things we know that we know.
There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don't know.
But there are also unknown unknowns – there are things we do not know we don't know”

Say’s it all really

So it’s my birthday and I got given a cake last night, (they didn’t know it was my piano birthday), so that’s lunch taken care of.

One more thing: the year has been all the better for joining this site and finding all you wonderful people, thanks to all those that make it possible and may it never stop.

PS I lined up this morning at the same race but this time as a spectator, (and as a pacer in the all night section), all the time I am wondering about my new piece and getting back to the piano. How things have changed.

Don't forget the unknown knowns; we - by chance - occasionally stumble onto the right information from time to time wink

Happy anniversary!

Happy Birthday and Congratulations on your first year piano anniversary. I think making it through the first year is the hardest. If you make it that far, you are hooked! I think piano is easier on the body than 100 mile racing, but it is a long journey itself and is equally rewarding!

There are no words to describe how happy I am to read your post.

The best to you.

I tried several times to play the piano and thought it would never be, but one day I had a chance and like you - you go with that chance to see were it takes you.

Michael,

Happy 1 year piano-anniversary as well as happy birthday. You will certainly stay height and weight proportionate doing 100 mile runs. [I'm thinking of the 200 count bottle of Motrin right now!)

I hope you hang around here a while Earl as you've got lots of good stuff to offer.
