CC2 ...

Who's the "she"?

Why is it labeled Nocturne, Op 9 No 2? - at least that's how it comes up on Dell's Jukebox. It's the second movement of the second Piano Concerto.

Very nice performance. I would also like to know who's playing. The piano sounds great too.

Retired at the beach (well maybe not completely)

Anton Rubinstein said about the piano: "You think it is one instrument? It is a hundred instruments!"

According to the savefile link, it was Dubravka Tomsic.

Can't seem to access the file now - will try again later...

Hi everyone,
It is Dubravka Tomsic playing the Second Movement of Chopin's Second Concerto. Mysteriously, the CD was encoded wrong, that's why it is coming up as the Nocturne. She is a Slovenian pianist, discovered as a child prodigy, in the late forties or early fifties, by Rubenstein, who brought her over here for a year to tutor her himself. I find her nuance, control and dynamic range incredible, as well as her interpretation. I have listened to many, many other fine pianists play Chopin and no one can move me like she does. What do you all think?

I heard her many times in concert. She is a great Chopi \:\) nist. Her playing also reminds me of Janina Filakowska.

Absolutely heavenly. Any idea about the recording (i.e. what year was it recorded, where ?)

Not sure of the year or place. I'll have to look into it further. I just know that if I could someday play even a tenth as well as she does I will have achieved a major goal in my musical life.
