Well, just heard that Pleyel closed their doors yesterday.

Is this sad news just for pianists or is it a concern also for piano techs?

Pleyel has had a very low presence in the US for a long, long time. I bet that somewhere between 95%-99% of players and techs have never seen one, let alone played one. In all likelihood, if someone were to have heard of Pleyel, they probably would associate it with the 19th century, and would be surprised to learn that had still been in business all these years. Sad? Sure. Relevant? Not so sure.

A posting in the Piano area links to an article that says Broadwood is still making a few pianos. Broadwood was established before Pleyel.

I have played one Pleyel grand about 10 years ago. I liked it very much. It is very rare anyway.

I understand that a place named Finchcocks in Kent,S.England, are either making Broadwood, or assembling imported parts.
