Greetings,

Are the old Steinway's, presumably the pre-one piece rim type, less interesting for rebuild/ restoration?

http://denver.craigslist.org/msg/4180549275.html

It is selling for below the typical price for 'cores' per the rules of thumb I have seen around here.

Just curious-

These older models can have issues with the tuning pin blocks.
The way they were designed and fitted into the case.
If I were to take on one of these for restoration I would redesign how it is mounted and reinforced.
If you have difficulty getting the action out because the bass section hammer flange screws are binding on the bottom of the pin block you have a problem that is not an easy fix.

It also appears to have been modernized. The music desk, fallboard decal and possibly the legs and pedals don't appear to be original.

Agreed.

Thanks very much to you and to Mr. Nelson for your comments.

The price went down by half to $2K.
Wonder if we had anything to do with it.
