Basically he asked citizens of the internet to give him holiday tunes in X styles (e.g. Carol of the Bells in gloomy Chopin style), then he improvises the tune and post a link to his playing.

A rather impressive array of styles. He's certainly one of the best improvisational musicians I've ever heard.
