So ... my thread of backing tracks has not been particularly fruitful as of yet.

Another option I hope to have is a machine that has various built-in Drum and Bass rhythms available and allows me to implement them in some manner.

The ultimate would be something that would allow me to vary the tempo as needed if I would like to slow down, like at the end of the piece.

Are there options available for this type of thing ?

dmd, I've not tried one myself, but possibly something like the Alesis .

The Alesis is drums/bass only IIRC, which is what you asked for and it isn't TOO expensive.

I have been browsing around thinking that I would like the WHOLE band/orchestra and came across the Roland BK-7m.
This looks to be most of the rhythm/sequencer/accompanying guts of their ensemble pianos.
About $1,000 "street price", (around a buck per instrument voice).

If you want to go the laptop route I guess it comes down to Garage Band for Mac or Band-in-a-Box for PC.

Also on the Windows route is Stagelight. This is from Open Labs, the people who used to be in hardware but gave up and went software. I haven't tried it but its predecessor was OK. And it's very cheap.
