As you know, I'll have the privilege to organize the next European Piano Party (EPP2014).
Lisbon will be the location and I'm sure you'll have a good time in my home town. Recently Lisbon won the category of "Europe's Leading City Break Destination 2013" of the World Travel Wards organization, so I think it's perfect for an unforgettable weekend.

Info about World Travel Awards here: http://www.worldtravelawards.com/award-europes-leading-city-break-destination-2013
Info about Lisbon (in English): http://www.visitlisboa.com/Conteudos/Menu-Principal/Home.aspx?lang=en-GB
btw: We will try to organize some "guide tours" of the Lisbon region.

Some updates:
- I was thinking about using the Art Center of my company to do our EPP2014. It has plenty of space and a piano. I just have to speak with the right person.
- On the other hand, a friend of mine is the RH director of a nice hotel in Lisbon. He told me that they can do a special rate for groups and, probably, they will *offer* the piano hall for us during a day. He'll check the best date, but It all depends on the number of guests...
- About the date: UEFA Champions League final will be in Lisbon, in May, so he advice us to do our EPP2014 after this event. The hotel rates are too high in May because of that football match.
- Next week I'll be in contact with Yamaha Iberia to understand what type of support they can offer.

Now, the decisions:
1st) Event date: never before May. I propose, June 2014.
2nd) Participants:
- CarlosCC +2 / +3

(...)

Have a nice weekend!

Since I didn't participate this year I'm definitely interested to come 2014. It will be a great advantage for me, however, to know exact days as early as possible. June is fine for me.

I really, really want to come, but I'm a little wary of taking a plane entirely on my own. The farthest I've gone alone was Paris, by train, and on my way back I got booted off that train (and taken to a hospital by ambulance, somewhat against my will) because I'd had a seizure.

Obviously, I can't be booted off a plane if I have a seizure mid-flight, but there are still plenty of things that could go wrong in a city I don't know (and where nobody knows me) if I don't have someone with me who at least knows that I have epilepsy, and what (not) to do, should something unexpected happen.

I'm sure that once I'm there, we can make group arrangements for where to stay and what to do, so that I'll never be on my own for too long. But I think I can really only come if there's someone else who will be flying from Brussels.

Maybe that means I have to provide my own chaperone. But maybe not: is there anyone else on PW who would have to come through Brussels, and is planning to go to this EPP?

If I come, I would strongly prefer the final weekend of June, because before then I will have exams.

I am really looking forward to EP 2014! This year's party was such fun.

June works fine for us. We can make any weekend work with enough notice.

Saranoya - I don't know if there will be anyone from Brussels but I do know that airlines offer assistance (paid, obviously) - we have had it for my mother-in-law who was frail and slightly senile, and also for a friend who is blind who came to visit.

I'm sure that it would be possible to coordinate meeting up at the airport for arrivals if it ends up that you fly on your own with airline assistance.
Just a thought.
It would be great if you could join us!!!

Ok, so end of June is our target.
I don't want to exclude later weekends - like the beginning of July - but hotel rates are usually high from 15 July to 15 September.

Saranoya, I'm sorry about your epilepsy...
You're not going to be alone in Lisbon! I'll take special attention with you. Just make sure you bring your European Health Insurance Card http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=559
I understand your concern, but Belgium is a central country, and I'm sure someone can catch a train to Brussels and then travel with you. Or, as Cheryl sugested, you can request airline assistance.

Wow, Lisbon, what a temptation! And it's pretty near my city. Now I can't know if I'll be able to go there in june, but I'd like to join you all.

C'mon Recaredo, at this distance I'm sure you can organize your life to come play with us thumb .
I bet you can make the trip by car.

Early July would be ok for us too - but it would have to be the first weekend.

Love your list with flags Carlos! smile

Well, don't be. It's part of life, and it's annoying, but you know what they say: if it doesn't kill you, it'll make you stronger.

I'm just mentioning it here because I hope some of the other Belgians (who expressed interest in the last EPP, but couldn't make it on such short notice) will come out of the woodwork and decide to join us. Voilà, problem solved smile.

The first weekend of July would be fine for me too, and actually even better than the final weekend of June.

I would like so much to participate! But I can't say anything yet, for me it all depends on my family planning.
It would be nice to take advantage of EPP and join a vacation for the whole family (Algarve, maybe? I've only visited Lisbon and a bit of northern Portugal more than 20 years ago). Otherwise, a weekend for four people would be too much expensive...
June maybe too early for us, better early July.

torquenale, one of the dates is the first weekend of July, and I think this will be the chosen date.
If you schedule the trip several months in advance, you'll get much more cheaper rates. And don't forget that kids under 12 usually are "free" guests in hotels.
You can go to Algarve and take the train to Lisbon. The ticket it's around 20 Euros per adult (maybe 10 euros per child?). It's a nice trip of 2h:30m from Algarve to Lisbon.

So, can I put your name in the "maybe" list...? Yes?

Hi CarlosCC

You can add me to the maybe list as well. It is difficult to know already now whether I can join but since I really liked EPP2013, I will do everything I can to attend next year.

My girlfriend might join too (as a guest, not to play piano).

Hi,

I'm definitely interested but can't make any promises just yet. Probably only as soon as march next year will I be bale to really confirm my attendance. If I go I can accompany Saranoya as I'm from Belgium too. But no promises just yet.

Kind regards,

Wouter.
