Hi Everyone

I have found a Young Chang, 1990, 42", glossy mahogany colored cabinet (it is the one without the front legs). The seller is asking $2300 for it. What do you think of this one?

I asked about a schimmel earlier but I'm guessing its better to post separately?

Thanks for all your help.

What state, and for that matter, what country are you in?

If the USA, that's probably the same or more than the piano cost when it was new. It's also an entry-level piano model that you could buy new today for under $3000 in a simple black finish.

I'm trying to understand how the pricing all works. I googled prices and found this:

http://www.coloradopianobuyersguide.com/young_chang_piano_prices.htm

They said that average retail for this piano was $3360.00. Is the colorado piano buyers guide put out by the retail industry. Is there a place I can go to find out a fair price?

Thanks again.

Here is a link to the "bible" for purchasing a piano in the USA. There is extensive information on purchasing used pianos.

The online version is free!

Is it a private seller? if so, they might not know the real value of the piano.

I would think that a reasonable price for a basic Young Chang upright from 1990 (in good condition) would be between $1,200 and $1,500 - max !!

Hi Carey

No its being sold by Keys for Kids. I've decided against it.

Yes, that price is a bit high. I bought a similar size/age/style Kawai a year ago For $900, and I think many consider Kawai to be a little better, though of course opinions vary.
