mad Just a warning to folk in the UK importing parts from beyond our borders!
Today I received my damper springs and base felts from Steve Howard Pianos in USA total value $48,90 = 30,60 good value compared to what I would pay here in UK even if the "stuck-up" suppliers would dain to sell to a private individual. But the post office charged me 8 = $12,80 handling-fee, and tax was 6 = $9,60. So the final cost was an increase of 50% on the USA cost, which included postage: but still good value.
Now here is the "rub" I have previously bought strings from the USA and because these came "flat-packed" in an envelope they were charged as a letter by weight in USA. Thus no extra cost to me.
My advice is: ask for spares to be packed and sent as letters - not difficult grin

Gene Nelson:
My guess is that the BNP probably would no thave nationalised the post office so,yes I would undoubtedly have been spared the handling charge. However they do seem a bit "rabid" , non the less I did once make a contribution! Interesting! But I suppose this forum is not really for politics?

Goof, Heckschers will supply direct to the public, via their www.pianotrade.co.uk website. And there are plenty of people offering supplies on Ebay. Whther or not you get charged VAT on import seems to be something of a lottery - some small packets get away with it, some don't.

P.S. It's "deign", not "dain"!

That is one of main problems for me, I always have to pay customs and shipping to every purchase from abroad, and everything that I need for pianos comes from abroad.
