Friends,

I've recently played through Sibelius' beautiful, easy impromptu no.6 in e minor. It is two pages of pure delight (and excellent sight-reading practice for my fellow beginners):

I thought I'd try his more challenging impromptu no.5 in b minor. It is composed entirely of scales in both hands, with an additional voice which speaks only in octaves in the RH. It's very pretty and delicate:

However, I'm having trouble coming up with the right fingering. No, I don't have a teacher. Yes, I practice my scales.

You can find the sheet music here:

http://conquest.imslp.info/files/imglnks/usimg/b/b7/IMSLP15944-Sibelius_-_6_Impromptus__Op.5.pdf

Here is part of the first page:

For the RH, starting from the first measure, I use the fingering:

5-4-3-2 | 4-3-2-1 | 4-3-2-1 | 5-3-1-2

which works OK. For the LH, I'm really stuck! I have tried several fingerings, but none seem to be any good. They're all equally iffy:

1-2-3-4 | 1-2-3-5 | 1-2-3-5| 1-2-4-5

for example.

What do you recommend?

Thanks.

I would use the same fingering you gave, except with 5 instead of 4 in the first group.
