We get this question all the time. And as always, it depends on what qualities you're looking for in an edition. Affordability? Durability? Reliability?

I have used both the Dover and the Zimmermann editions. Dover as usual is inexpensive but the Zimmermann has more notes per page which means a lot fewer page turns. (This does make a big difference in the ones I have used.) I didn't find any significant differences between the editions as far as the actual music goes. To get the complete sonatas Dover is about 1/10 the price as buying the individual Zimmermann.

Medtner is a great find! Nothing is easy but the rewards are worthy of the effort.

Miguel,

These are the only two editions I have been able to find in the USA. I am not even sure the Zimmermann is still available. I really don't think you will have too many choices with a composer like Medtner. It is kind of like finding someone other than Boosey for Bartok's Microcosmos. Who do you think has an error filled edition?

This Medtner website is often a good source of information about editions and errors. From what they say, it looks like the 2005 Zimmerman edited by Flamm may be the one you want.
