I'd like to participate if I could. I promise I've practiced every day since my piano arrived Jan. 7th of this year.

While I have been doing this for months now, is not bad at all to have one more motivating factor out there! I can tell you it has been doing wonders for my playing technique. My goal for this year has been at least 1hr per day trying to go for more but at the very list, I sit and play every day no matter what. So far so good! smile

I'm home from New York and back to my lovely piano. Feels like a different world there from my mountains and wide open spaces.

Tangleweeds : "writing about about tough experience can decrease overall stress indicators for many months"
Thank you Tangleweeds, my other self has always been a writer but Iíve re-discovered my piano of late, and when I felt I couldnít play it did help to write.

Ragdoll : "that was simply lovely and like Cathy it made my eyes well up in tears."
Thank you for your sharing Ragdoll. I found it was a real help to me to write and didnít think it would be so moving for others, especially Ďstrangersí. but then those with an artistic streak do the to Ďtune-iní to emotions more than most might.

Jotur -:" how wonderful they felt called to sing with you"
I hadnít thought of that, I was too focussed on playing and you are quite right, it was really very touching that they all came in from the other room to sing nursery rhymes at that time.

anrpiano : "By all means play! Music gives sound to the unutterable groanings of the human soul. You are there to do just that.
They cancelÖ.. but not concerts for a reason." -

I had not thought of myself as having such a role to play, just went with the flow, and somehow it did bring release for everyone. For me it was all so unexpected and really quite affirming even though I scarcely would call myself much of a piano player.
Music really does have more to say to us than we know, and I suppose WE all know that. In our small ways we try to bring that to the world each time we try and play something, however simple or amateur. Thatís what we celebrate amongst each other here in PW!

Iím travelling back to Canada now and looking forward to getting a practise schedule going again with every intention of getting a 2014 flag to add to my signature!

Traveling Feb 1, 2, and 3............

No piano nearby.

Nice day to travel though, will get a perfect January.

I have to say, merely signing up for this with complete strangers has gotten me to play 2 days in January when I may have just watched football or been lazy.

Thank you, internet smile

Welcome to the forum, kupe and PianoBoenna! Sometimes having that little added "shame" of admitting you didn't get ot the piano is all you need to overcome a bit of inertia - I know it's helped me too so far!

Please sign me in. I do practice "almost" every day, and this might make me play every single one, even if only for 5 min late at night on busy days.

I want to deserve a siggy!

*thump* "Ouch! What the ...??"

That's me falling off the wagon while dead asleep.

This is so stupid. I was really sleepy last evening and laid down for a nap, after which I was going to get up, practice, catch up on emails, etc. But I just woke up and it's morning! So much for my late-night practice plan.

Oh, well. Coffee brewing. Back on the wagon. Have a great day, everyone!

Welcome all! Glad to see so many new comers to MOYD.

Deb, loved your sound effects smile Back on the wagon with you!

We just returned from a trip Feb 4-Feb 6 to a health Spa Hotel in the Alps to celebrate our twentieth wedding anniversary. But- I managed to keep my MOYD intact! I noted that they had a nice grand in the lounge the night that we arrived, but it was locked. So, after breakfast, I asked if I could play it. They said "Yes, of course!" and unlocked it. It turned out to be a lovely, well turned Yamaha with a nice touch. I played about a half an hour, and really enjoyed it. Then my husband pointed out that they had turned off the Musak, and I was the entertainment for the late breakfasters in the restaurant, and the people in the lounge and lobby. It probably was best that I didn't know that until after I played! Now a prerequisite for any hotel in the future is an available piano!

I would like to join, and will do so ..on Tuesday when my piano is (hopefully) delivered. Until then I will excuse myself as I cannot practise in thin air.

I was just snowed in for almost a week. Portland just shuts down after a snow or ice storm, and all business is suspended while we wait for it to melt. I fear I may have gotten a bit too far into "snow day week" mentality, though.

The first day I tweaked my back shoveling snow, and after that, drowsiness from chronic pain + muscle relaxers combined with the monotony of being snowed in all alone, all led to impromptu naps, and waking to discover it was tomorrow already. I was meanwhile rediscovering my mandolins, so there were couple of days in there where I don't think it even occurred to me that I had a piano, much less a responsibility interact with it on a daily basis.

So, lamest excuse ever: I forgot about the whole thing. (I did say I was bad at MOYD... but I think it's good to keep up the struggle to improve...)

Mandolins are very cool! I saw Jethro Burns play with Steve Goodman a number of times -- what a great musician he was!

As the owner of a digital piano, my mandolins give me a nice dose of genuine vibrating strings and wood, and I'm currently finding that very seductive (those of you with genuine strings and wood pianos, go give them a big hug of appreciation).

As a music theory geek, I also enjoy how mandolins are tuned like violins, in fifths, so there's a very pleasing logic to the fretboard.

Please mark me on the excused list for 2/15. I chaperoned a weekend field trip for my son, so no piano yesterday. We were gone from noon Friday to Sunday evening. I tried to practice today when I got home but I could tell I'm so worn out that it would be counter productive. But I look forward to a good practice tomorrow.

It's "Heck Week" for my community light opera group, so I'm going straight from work to the orchestra pit for rehearsals and performances ("Yeomen of the Guard") running to midnight every night this week. Please grant me an excused absence until Saturday, when I'll climb back onto the piano wagon.

O!!! you are involved with G&S productions!!!!!! Wow. I'm so jealous. I used to see shows at least once a year , produced a local group in my hometown. Needless to say...in Italy Gilbert and Sullivan are not truly appreciated. Have fun!!!
