Multiple levels meaning that (Level 1) he thinks you are mistaken, (Level 2) you think he is mistaken to think that you are mistaken, (Level 3) he thinks you are mistaken to think that he is mistaken to think that you are mistaken...

If I had to choose between jazz and Michael I think I would choose Michael. But that doesn't mean I like "all" pop of course. Far from that...

How is disregarding pop and jazz the same as disregarding everything in the past 100 years?

I didn't say that. If you had actually read our conversation before making this post, you would know that I specifically asked Polyphonist if there was any music post-classical that he liked. His response was "I don't mind some jazz." Therefore we can conclude that Polyphonist disregards everything post-classical except some jazz, which is exactly what I said in my quote.

This is just a misunderstanding that stemmed from your first misunderstanding.

You are getting confused yourself. No, you can't conclude that. I love plenty of music from the past 100 years that is not jazz.

Then why didn't you say so? You gave me a very misleading response.

It is misleading because it's terse and ambiguous.

Neither of those words means misleading...and it is not intended to be ambiguous. It means that the only non-classical music that I like is some jazz.

Gizzards isn't trying to redefine "misleading" with two other words. He's describing your post, and he's right.

But I think I see what threw us off. The second I mentioned "past 100 years" you changed your answer because of all the new-age classical composers. The ones who still carry the tradition of concert music, score notation, etc. People like Kapustin, Ligeti and others. (and obviously the big guys in early 20th century)

When I say "post-classical" I am talking about the common practice period.

Please don't call Ligeti a new-age composer...

Working on:
Chopin - Nocturne op. 48 no.1
Debussy - Images Book II

What does the term "new-age composer" mean in this context?

I actually never changed my question. I asked you one question, one time.

When I said "non-classical" I was referring to music well outside the common practice period. My intentions never changed. There was just a communication error.

Actually, the communication error was that I didn't make myself clear when I said "non-classical", which is why you answered with "some jazz". If I had made myself clear by saying "common practice period" your answer would have included all of the contemporary-classical composers.

You consider Rachmaninoff, Godowsky, and Debussy to be contemporary composers?

Maybe it works ok with less complex music though? The fact that JoelW turned out to have Michael Jackson in mind makes more sense.

Uh, what? I certainly did not have Michael Jackson in my mind at that time. He came up later in a totally unrelated conversation.
