Hi, I've had the kawai cs4 now for about 3 months and like it a lot, just one thing irritates me and that is the lack of a function to save settings. For example, I purposely purchased the cs4 as it was the most like an acoustic piano and wasn't cluttered with features. I was looking for as near to acoustic as I could get. I like voice/sound 1 but I like it with two clicks of brilliance and with any sound I play, the touch set to "high". There a few more settings I play around with to give the sound I like. However, every time I press the power off button on the piano (not at the mains!!) and turn back on, all my settings are gone.

I'm moaning because I can. It is a lovely instrument and if I could save the settings, it would be exactly what I wanted - a piano I could turn on and play right away. As it is, I have to get all the settings back each time.

I suppose having never owned a digital piano before, is this just a model issue or is this lack of setting saving consistent with most electric pianos. If it is normal, then fair enough. Being involved in basic electronics, it just seems like a very simple function to implement. I almost presumed this would be the case without thinking!!

Read the manual !!!

Most DP's have one or both of:

. . . Save the "current state" of the piano,
. . . and start up in that state;

and/or

. . . Save the "current state" of the piano in a named memory
. . . (may be called "stage setting" or "registration")
. . . so it can be recalled with one or two button-presses.

You may have one of the exceptions -- I don't know the CS4.

Craynerd, unfortunately the CS4 does not support the ability to save settings to user memory.

Kawai does not provide saving user settings on its low end pianos. Other makers are guilty of this too. It's all about market segmentation and extracting maximum dollar from the consumer.
