I am learning to play different cords with my left hand while playing different notes with my right hand. Got the idea from Scott Hudson off of one of his dvd's that I have. I am now starting to have fun and learning to use both hands. Also noticed that my left hand is hurting and stiff is that normal for beginners?

It is probably due to what you are doing physically while playing the chords. The first thing I had to do when I finally had a teacher was to totally revamp what I did for chords.
