Thank you so very much for such a detailed reply. I find your comment on my trills very useful, I have never noticed that my finger slides during the trill, I shall be working on stopping that.
I dont know whether you have played a challen before but this one is particularly temperamental. The piano isnt marked with a model or serial number, all we know is that it is a challen baby grand, my piano tuner recons it is from the 1930's. It can be very difficult to control and the tone is always the same when it is in tune. Do you have any ideas why this may be?
I played a similar piece to this at Birmingham conservatoire a few years ago on a steinway and was able to achieve much better dynamics and phrasing etc. So I am certain that part of the issue is the piano.
However I understand about the heaviness of my left hand and will try to improve this.
One other thing is that for some reason when I record myself I tend to get far more nervous than being in front of an audience, im not sure why, but this has always had a littpe bit of an impact on my recordings.
