Returning today to cold and rainy Norway from sunny Florida. Last update of the list has removed French Suite no.2. Anyone else interested in playing it?

I made a road trip starting in Fort Lauderdale, then Fort Myers, the Keys (didn't go further out than Marathon) and finally Miami. Very nice weather, but I got sunburnt. :-)

Right around my neck of the woods (Ft. Lauderdale). Sorry about the sunburning part, I try to stay out of it because I'm fairer skinned as well. Even in winter it's still pretty hot! smile

Sorry that I didn't know that you live in the area. I should have contacted you and asked for a piano lesson. I'm sure you would have found lots of improvement potential in my playing. :-)

Perhaps next time then smile . I don't know if I'll be making my way to Norway any time soon, although that would be cool.

For Bach, the French Suite #2 is one of my favorites, relatively easy and enjoyable to play with some touching moments. The Allemande is amazing.

Hey Tim I listened through some of them and they are nice. However I am not sure if I can "appreciate" playing a Suite yet. They are all rather long and tbh the only piece I really felt that spoke to me Debussy's Petite Suite. But it's for four hands! frown

I'm currently working on Handel's Keyboard Suite No. 5, the one with "The Harmonious Blacksmith" in it.

That said, I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole tonight, and found this recording, which really inspired me. Oh, that we could all own our music this way:

Anybody out there know what I'm saying?

What about the Suites of Händel? Want to know how to play these works? Look at the Dutch pianiste Daria van den Bercken.....she plays it so beautiful

daria van den bercken 'she can handle it'

Enjoy it.....
Best regards

How is your progress with the suites? I really look forward to listening to all this great music.

I have learned a lot from my study of the Bach Partita. Most important perhaps that there is no "correct" way of interpreting it. Some brushing up yet to do, and during the summer vacation I'm going to be 4 - 5 weeks away from the piano. But I hope to be able to make an acceptable recording when the time comes.

The hard part of Tombeau is bringing it up to tempo. Yikes! (and not making it sound like a lot of clattering when it gets there...)

Honestly, I have been focusing on composing this summer so I haven't spent any time on my suite at all! It doesn't seem terribly hard, but I haven't run through all of the pieces. Most likely it will come down to last-minute recordings as per usual. wink

After a confidence-shaking failure in the Alkan e-cital, I decided to not commit to anything for this one until I was sure I could deliver. I still haven't reached that point (and probably won't until the last minute). But still, I am having a lot of fun using this recital as motivation for working on some suite-type things I had on hand (Poulenc and Saint-Saens), and also to look at some new things, too (Berger, Juon, Bruell, Tailleferre, and a few others).

From Holberg's Time is a blast. Grieg always has such a positive outlook compared to the other classical masters.

Really diggin' my visit with Debussy each day. If not at the keys then certainly in my head. I'm finding that creating *texture* is the most difficult aspect.

I'm glad I decided to participate. It's a stretch for my personality. I love to play, love to practice, but get on edge when I know someone's actually paying attention!

I'm writing an opera, intended to be sung with synth, but it could easily be done with orchestra and band (drums, guitar, bass, synth). It will be based on the story of King David from the Bible.

I've only got most of the Prologue written so far, so quite a ways to go. Some days it just writes itself, and other days it's like pulling teeth getting a good 4 measures out. eek
