I've been working with the Alfred All-in-one for a few weeks, but my Mother in Law is giving free lessons to my children, so she said she'd give me some as well.

She is a very accomplished pianist, so I can't wait to see how much I've been doing wrong. My wife sent her a video of me playing "Jingle Bells", which I thought I did pretty well for two weeks in.

Her reply was, "He really needs lessons before his bad habits get too ingrained".

So I know I have a lot to work on!

She didn't say specifically, but if she noticed them from an over the shoulder 25 second version of "Jingle Bells", they must be pretty glaring!

Bad habits are inevitable, even for accomplished pianists. It's great that you are starting lessons now early on in the process - some things are very hard to change after they've become engrained. smile

I think lessons with one's mother-in-law sounds like a bad habit from the get-go. They may be unpaid, but I doubt they are free.

Peter, you are wise beyond your years (whatever they might be).

Not necessarily corysold. She may have just been aware that bad habits can develop very quickly in beginners without some guidance of a teacher to point them out.

That said, I agree with peterws that free doesn't always mean without cost. Tread carefully. grin

I think it would help to ask what the bad habbits were so you can avoid doing whatever the bad habbit is
