What is the general consensus on the Yamaha Arius YDP-240? I am so enjoying my P-155 that was recommended from this board. Having said that, I am constantly looking at new DP options.

Is it more gimmick than actual quality(actually DGX-640 in better clothing)? All opinions appreciated.

Thank you,
LPV

If you don't need to buy immediately, you may wish to hold off on the Yamaha YDP-V240.

This one was on my "short list" of digital pianos, though I wound up going the professional keyboard/synth route instead.

What I liked: Reasonable price (about $2,000 US). Furniture-style cabinet. Wide variety of sounds, and auto-accompaniment feature.
What I didn't like: Some non-piano sounds were unconvincing and cheesy (the General MIDI patch bank was rather bad). The GHS action isn't as nice as the GH action in other Yamaha DPs in the same price range.

This model is a few years old and hasn't been refreshed in a while (since about 2010). The digital piano world is evolving quickly, and it baffles me why Yamaha hasn't updated this instrument with a better action and more sample memory.

Overall, if you test-drive one and like it, then I'd say go ahead. But if you find it lacking, no problem in holding off and looking at alternatives.

Don't expect any "refresh". The digital piano market is most certainly NOT evolving quickly. It moves at a snail's pace. Model numbers change, but if you hid those numbers you'd be hard pressed to distinguish a 2014 piano from a 1999 piano.

As for the YDP-V240 ... I wouldn't want any piano with a GHS keyboard, most especially one that costs $2000. So I'd rule out this piano. For this price you can get the low-end Clavinova ... with a GH3 keyboard.

I looked at this myself some years ago. I wondered why I felt so comfortable playing it. It is nothing more than the cabinet version of DGX640 and I had the 620 at the time. Same 6W per channel output too and the price is doubled. Not good! You could get the Casio AP 650 which is in a similar vein with some enhances features and a much lower price. Better looking, too.

Peterws already said it, it is nothing more than a DGX640 in a wood cabinet.

For that price, i would expect a difference such as a GH keyboard.

It is really disapointing from Yamaha

To be honest, it`s still a good sounding instrument. But they`ll bring out a new one soon, I reckon. Based on the DGX650. . . . grin maybe with that GH keyboard to sort of justify the price tag.

From the comments made here, it seems to be nothing more than the DGX-640. The sales guy at the local music store was actually making it out to be the end all/be all I guess due to the price point!

Thanks,
LPV

P.S. Still loving my Yamaha P-155!!!
