I like the National Guitar Workshops's (Alfred) Beginning Blues Keyboard. The material is nicely balanced between "Songs" and exercises to give you the ability to improvise and solo. The pieces are nicely authentic and very bluesy. A whole chapter on comping etc.

I would also recommend that you find 3 or 4 recordings you like and listen to them over and over, until you start hearing the piano parts in your mind (if you haven't already done this). Then you'll learn from whatever lessons you choose much quicker and with a more natural feeling for the music. Have fun!

The Blues Scales by Dan Greenblatt (http://www.amazon.com/Blues-Scales-Essential-Tools-Improvising/dp/1883217385/). Practical application of minor and major blues over the changes.

Hal Leonard Stride and Swing Piano (http://www.amazon.com/Stride-Swing-...words=Hal+Leonard+STride+and+Swing+Piano)... not too easy not too difficult.

In my case, if you just google: Alfred Beginning Blues Keyboard

You will get a ton of hits. In your web search don't forget it's keyboard not piano but don't be confused. The book itself is completely acoustic piano oriented.

The best book for learning the Blues, by far in my opinion, is Tim Richards "Improvising Blues Piano".

I've been all the way through this book and would recommend it very highly.

Is anyone familiar with this book Only 2 customer reviews there, but both are positive - and the sample pages provided look interesting.

Does anyone have thoughts on this book?

Thanks.

Could you elaborate a bit on why you think that I should take a pass on it? Have you seen/tried the book?

Thanks.

I've posted some free lesson here: http://keyboardimprov.com/lessons/free/

These styles are a lot of fun once you get a little comfortable with them.
Enjoy, and good luck!

I would highly recommend a site that I just discovered.

It contains jazz / cocktail piano video lessons produced by Bill Susman.

These, in my opinion, are excellent lessons for the late beginner, early intermediate player.

They are very detailed, maybe to a fault but the result is a very clear understanding of how to play this type of music.

They have a few FREE ones to get your feet wet with.

My recommendation would be to start with the Christmas tunes.
