I can only engrave 40 letter into the recital trophies.
One of my student has a very long last name, it has 14 letters. Obviously I cannot fit all first name and 14 letters of last name on the plate. I wonder which one is more professional?

Firstname Lxxxxxxxxxxxxx (obviously this cannot fit)

or

F. Lxxxxxxxxxxxxx

or

Firstname L.

Which one is better?

You could ask the student and/or parent for their preference.

So your student's first name is more than 26 letters?

Often someone has a shortened form of their first name, that you might be able to use along with the full family name.

You might want to consider sublimated name plates. You get better font choices, too, and the plate can fit way more letters.

I am sorry, I do not know what is "sublimated", can you give me one graphic example? Thanks.

Is there any way to alter other parts of the trophy plating for the one trophy?

Alexandria Alexander
2014 Spring Recital

instead of

Alexandria Alexander
2014 Spring Recital
EZ Piano

My kids both have super long names and they would not like initials. My daughter had medal engraved last month and had the level abbreviated so she could have her whole name fit.

Firstname Lxxxxxxxxxxxxx (23)
Kindergarten (12)

That is 46 total
I can only fit 40, something has to go away.

Thanks

Just a thought - most engravers have a set number of spaces per line, and a set number of lines, for example, 3 lines, 13 spaces per line. You might want to ask for a clarification from your trophy place.

In other words, I cannot have 38 letters on one line, and 1 letter on each of the other two lines. 13 characters per line would make more sense.

You can just google it to find examples. The technology has been around for a long time now. I've been using it since 2007, and I'm never going back to the traditional engraving of plates.

Think of it as a laser printer for metal plates. You can customize the font and the size of the print just like you can with a laser printer for your Microsoft Word documents.

Since you have the year, writing the grade, especially "preschool" isn't necessary.
You could also ask the engraver who may have faced the situation before.

Is it that you actually can't fit the name on one line or is it that you get 40 letters for free and any more you have to pay for? Or does the company only engrave 40 max, no matter how many are on a line.

Update:
Yes, I double check with the company. Actually I am able to fit more than 40 letters onto the plate, but I have to pay more, so, I decide to pay more so that it looks nicer. I even spell out "Kindergarten" and "Preschool" for their school grade. I receive my trophies today, they looks great!!

The few extra dollars spent are generally rewarded. I'm sure your students will cherish their trophies.
