LOL!

Same here, I've managed to keep practicing despite travel and sickness aplenty. Although there was a close call one day where I forgot if I had practiced or not (and I had, in the morning). There have been several times when I made myself do it just because I didn't want to fess up online. smile

Hi,

Glad to find this challenge. I've been doing my own version at home after a disappointing lesson a couple weeks ago due to skipped practice. I almost quit, as it seemed impossible to continue to fit piano in with work and family. However, I decided that I'd do 10 minutes a day no matter what and have kept to that vow. The only way I can guarantee it, I find, is to practice from 5:50 to 6 a.m. (I have a digital piano with headphones--otherwise this might be a problem!). Almost every day, I've been able to fit in another short practice as well, but that early-morning stint is key for my motivation.

So I pledge to practice for at least 10 minutes a day.

Please sign me up, and thanks for organizing!

Stick with it Liz cat. I wish I 'd had a digital when my family was little - I just took a decade or two off practising - but now at 60+ I can still play Chopin and no matter what life throws at you I hope you will keep playing.

ME TOO!!

You cant get me off the piano!

Now the real question is...

am I really focusing correctly on practice? That is a different matter.

Usually my practice sessions are just going over pieces (from start to finish) anything I feel at the moment. Not drilling myself over correcting anything or any exercises but that is the unfortunate case of my piano practice usually. smile

Good for you for finding some time that works, and then whenever you can do more that's just bonus time! This is also a great opportunity to learn how to practice more efficiently. You can get a lot done in 10 minutes if you work it out well. Just be sure not to pick pieces that are too long, and perhaps not too challenging too. Also, don't have too many pieces, maybe 2 or 3 at the most. Of course, it sounds like you have a teacher, and so if she/he is aware of your schedule they can certainly tailor to suit your available practice time if they have not already. Congrats on sticking with it!

Likewise, I think/hope/am determined to have an unblemished Q1.
Q2 on the other hand is going to be a different story as I have a lot of travel coming up.

Lizcat, welcome & congrats on finding a way to squeeze it in. I'm in much the same position struggling to carve out that time between work and family. Even a little time is a million times better than none I find. Morodienne's advice is excellent (I should apply it more diligently myself).

which leads me nicely to...
briansaddleback - you and me both re the focused practice or lack thereof! I could benefit from more planning of my practice sessions and discipline. Participation in the FOYD thread is in my future for sure, in a couple of months when the travel phase is done perhaps.

Hung up at an out-of-town business meeting today, not getting back until late.

Back on the wagon tomorrow!

OUT OF TOWN That puts you on the excused list, not the "back on the wagon" list smile

I had an encounter with a sidewalk last Thursday afternoon, so I need to be excused from last Friday (March 28) until whenever my hand & wrist get better. It's improving fast, though - with my wrist support on, I can use 2 fingers on that hand to type. My right hand wasn't involved, so I'm planning to recopy some sheet music while the other side heals.

Oh, Carol, I'm sorry to hear that! Let us know when you're back at the piano! I hope it won't be too long! Heal up quickly and well!

I didn't know. It's still frustrating, though!

I hate it when work interferes with my music.

I played Saturday am before driving down to Vancouver for the Rach Festival concert in Opheum Hall. but must beg excuse for Sunday .We went delivering wine up at Squamish - ten cases our sales person couldn't get in the truck this time - and decided to spend the night with relatives on the way back. They don't have a piano so I have to be excused today 30th March. I'll be back 31st in time for my month end recording and hope I haven't slipped too much and can persevere long enough to try ecco fatto cafe this time!

I will have to be excused on April 16-20, as I will be traveling through Germany. I will be able to play a bit of piano on my iPad but I don't think that counts!

Anyway, I have a very sound reason to get away from my piano... on April 19 I will attend Martha Argerich & Daniel Barenboim's recital in Berlin! smile
