Good Morning,

My name is Destin and I live in Northern Utah with my wife and two children. My oldest is 2 years 4 months old and my wife mentioned she would like to pick up a piano. I have always wanted been interested in learning to play but have been to busy but I think it would be good for my daughter. My wife has mentioned interest in playing in the past and I think this is a good time to pick one up.

We went to the local piano store a couple years ago and they recommended the Yamaha Clavinova line. I'm definitely interested in a low maintenance piano that would be good for our family. Cost is also a concern so a new unit is out of the question. There are 2 pianos that are very close to me that I'm considering but I'm not sure which is the best deal. From the pictures they both look very nice. Both are Yamaha but they are different models, CLP-220 and CLP-230. The 220 is advertised at $800 and the 230 is listed at $1200. I contacted the owner of the 230 via email and they said the lowest they would take is $1000. I think with the current price points we'll spring for the 230 but if there is a little negotiating room on the 220 would that be the better deal? I'm completely new to pianos so I'm really shooting in the dark. Last night and this morning I've been reading up on the 2 but as of right now it's like deciphering greek.

Thanks in advance,

- Destin

Hi Destin, and welcome to Piano World!

You will likely get more responses to your thread over on the digital piano forum...

This forum is primarily for the discussion of acoustic pianos. But, we discuss a variety of topics here as well. smile

I can move the tread to the digital piano forum if you'd like.

Rick

Welcome to the forum, Destin! And I applaud you and your wife for being willing to invest in your child's musical education. smile

I don't know much about the Clavinova series, but as with most computer/electronic devices, my suspicion is that the newest will have the best technology and life expectancy. I agree with Rick, though, that you will get more informed responses over in the Digital sub-forum.

And once you get your piano, come join us in the Adult Beginners forum. There's a great deal of information, support, and fun to be had there. smile

Welcome to pianoWorld! I think the others are correct in recommending you seek answers to your questions in the digital forum. It's just another section of this site (the very next one down under Popular Forums).
Good luck with your search.
