Dear Friends,

This is my first post in the forum - after a lot I have read for the last couple of months. I would like to start by thanking you all putting together a great resource for musicians.

I am a professional in telecommunications and I play guitar. I have started taking music seriously and started to "actually" learn musicianship. Therefore I have started theory, harmony, instrument classes, workshops, etc...

I do also record at home (logic pro).

I have always loved pianos, and it started to be practicing the scales and advanced chords very boring and un-effective since I have built tendency to learn shapes and sliding around guitar neck without actual effort to learn individual notes inside scales and chords. I know I cannot to that on the piano. And I have decided to have one...

I live in an apartment and I think an acoustic upright may not be suitable even the price gap between acoustics (like Kawai K3 and K5) and good DPs are not much. I have even heard the ATX variants but its totally another discussion topic I guess...

I was leaning towards the Kawai CA65 or CS7 or CS10 but I have then started considering stage pianos just because I can integrate them into my DAW desk and use as midi controller also.

Since MP10 is older, I was just deciding on pre-ordering an RD800 but I think I will wait for the MP11 to become available in my country.

As my prime purpose is to learn music, then start from ground for classics and improve my musicianship (ear training included) skills - do you think I am doing the right thing? I really want to have most realistic feel and the flexibility of a stage piano until I can afford a german baby grand...

Thank you very much for your time, and I really appreciate your valuable input.

If you already have a DAW workstation I would definitely look into the stage pianos. But that's my bias because I have zero interest in furniture in general... Any of the DPs you mention will certainly be good enough to learn on, so it just comes down to cost and personal preference.

For my upgrade, I'm considering the Yamaha CP4, but I too want to wait and get the early hands-on reviews of the MP11 after it hits the streets.
