I am listening to this new CD and like the piano he played a lot. I wonder if anyone of you was at that recital and know what is the piano he was playing that night.

I believe Trifonov plays Steinway and Fazioli. The above video seems to indicate his Carnegie Hall debut was on a Steinway.

Thanks very much pianoloverus. The piano in the recital recording sounds much more like a Steinway than a Fazioli.

I have the CD, and it's a Hamburg Steinway. Trifonov mentioned it in the booklet liner notes.

This on the other hand, is Trifonov playing a Fazioli in London:

Unlike Angela Hewitt (who's of course been around a lot longer), Trifonov is more pragmatic about getting his preferred Fazioli to play on wherever he goes, especially outside Europe. That may change of course, as his celebrity status is growing very rapidly.

I was at the Chicago performance of the same program on Feb. 9.

Magnificent !!!

The first half of the program, Stravinsky, Debussy, and Ravel, was on an American S&S. The piano was switched to a Hamburg at intermission for the Schumann Symphonic Etudes.

Four Encores !!!!

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

Thanks Bennevis for the information. I must have missed it reading through the liner notes. I thought the piano was probably a Steinway after listening the CD twice, but it was not clear-cut a Hamburg Steinway. Usually I can tell without much problem. Shall we say, this one was not as "Hamburg" as those in other DG recordings that I have heard before. Thanks again.
