Hello guys

I'm wondering if a musician should ask donatives when playing in churches. Some friends have been saying yes

What is your opinion?

I presume you mean "donations"?

This really depends entirely upon the church. Is the recital sponsored and organized by the church or is this a recital for which the performer needs the church venue?

If the church is sponsoring the recital, then it's up to the church to determine whether admission is charged and whether that admission is a fixed price or is in the form of a donation.

If the performer needs the church space to put on his/her own recital, then I would think it is up to the performer to negotiate a fee with the church to cover the costs of using the facility (electricity, heating, etc.). It should be up to the performer, then, to decide how those costs are going to be met.

Regards,

BruceD
