When it comes to funk you definitely want to check our Willie Myette's video lessons on Pianowithwillie.com He has a lot of lessons that specifically deal with Funk.

I must say though that it is only really economical if you become a member. Buying the lessons individually in my opinion is more on the pricey side.

When I say become a member I mean that you pay a monthly fee and have access to all the videos...this is much cheaper than buying them individually

He uses organ sweeps; 123 123 123 continuous 3 note pattern on the pentatonic scale, and clavinet style 2 handed comping... cannot hear him after the first 20 seconds . all easy to learn from youtube

There's two components here: rhtyhm and harmony. Ignoring the intro (which is a gospel progression), the harmony is a simple two-chord vamp. Learn the two chords in their different inversions up and down the keyboard, so you can hit it anywhere you want

To start with the rhythm of the vamp, do this:
bar 1: first chord on the 2nd beat, first chord anticipates the 4th beat
bar 2: first chord on the 2nd beat, first chord anticipates the 4th beat, the second chord on beat 4 1/2

repeat

You gotta feel that groove first

The Pop Piano Book [Mark Harrison] has a chapter on funk keyboard style....

In the video your guy uses organ sweeps; 123 123 123 continuous 3 note pattern on the pentatonic scale, and clavinet style 2 handed comping... cannot hear him after the first 20 seconds . all easy to learn from youtube
