You may be playing guess the age on it. They don't list the year on this particular one, but on their pianos in stock, at http://www.a440pianos.com/product.cfm?whatcat=100

there's a 2004 white U3 for 5500,
a 1978 black U3 for 3295,
a 1983 black U3 for 3995.

Hi,

This guy is one of the major used piano dealers in the Atlanta area. I have met him once and talked to him on a few occasions. As to whether or not you can trust him/them, it is not for me to say. I will tell you that he seems like a nice guy and he has lots and lots of pianos of all makes and ages (hundreds of them).

I think in this case, Squonk is on to something using the process of deduction… the piano in question is an older grey market piano (two pedal).

On the other hand, a Yamaha U3 for $1595 ain’t a bad price if it is in good condition. He does seem to dominate the Atlanta Craigslist piano ads but I guess if you are in the used piano biz and get free advertizing, you can’t blame him. (But I do find many of his Craigslist ads that say "moving, must sell" a little strange knowing that he is not moving but is a large volume used piano dealer.)

Good luck with your piano search.

Rickster

The vendor in your link plies its trade far and wide on the Internet under a variety of trade names personal names (that imply a private party listing), and web addresses. You should be very cautious.

This U3 page has been viewed more than 2000 times. If the piano were worth a damn, it would be long gone at that price. You could call to check on availability and see if you are directed to other more expensive pianos for sale.

Turandot, for you to be located on the other side of the North American continent, you seem to know more about what is going on in my own back yard than I do. \:D

Happy New Year!

Rickster,

I am not in the piano biz in any way.
I have never been in the piano biz in any way.

Is that clear?

Honestly, your insinuations are getting a little tiresome. I try to present facts. If you want to take issue with those facts, be my guest. But it seems you don't dispute those facts. You take issue with my presenting them. That makes no sense.

If I know something about A440, should I not say it because I live on the opposite coast?

I ran into this outfit when I was shopping for myself on pianomart.com. They have all kinds of listings there under different names. Check it out if you don't believe me. Check for the Lawrenceville and Lilburn piano locations.

They are frequently on eBay as well under a couple of different member names. They often feature pianos at 'too good to be true' prices.

I remember this A440 guy when he had a store in Winston/Salem NC. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

In my opinion, his advertising was misleading then and it's misleading now.

Turandot, I was just being facetious, man. Can’t you take a joke? However, if you want to take my comments the wrong way, that is your prerogative.

Best regards,

Rick

Rickster,

You asked this question a few days ago in another thread.

 Quote:
you know so much about all things pianos (and everything else) I’m surprised you are not in the piano business. Are you? If not you should be.
I indicated that I was not. Now you're doing it again.

 Quote:
You sure you ain’t in the piano biz? How about a piano consultant?
One time may be a joke, but even that one time I doubt it was a joke since the question was accompanied by a barrage of bitter criticism that I make it my business to insult people.

The second time is not a joke;. It is an annoyance. It is once again accompanied by criticism of me personally. You are questioning my credibility. There's nothing funny about that.

My purpose here is not to insult people. It is to learn and to share what I know. I don't question the value of your input on the member's question about A440. What reason do you have to question mine? If you directed your attention to the member's attempt to find a piano and not to your personal feelings toward me, you would be acting in the interests of the forum, not in the interests of Rickster.

As I said a few days ago, if you have a personal issue with me, send me a PM.

Dear Musicxfreakk,

Please accept my sincere apologies for my seemingly rude interaction with turandot here in your thread. For some reason, he and I have a tendency to do that on occasion.

Every once in a while some of his comments will irritate me and then I will irritate him back. There is no malice involved. If you hang around these forums as long as turandot and I have you will find that a little heated argument on occasion makes for some good entertainment. \:D

And, you are right, Bear1 is top notch!

Happy New Year and best of luck in your quest for just the right piano!

Rick

If I would like to mistrust this dealer's advert it would be very easy.

He says:
 Quote:
to get this piano delivered to your city for $595 anywhere in the u.s.a!
Because anywhere[/b] in the u.s.a. could mean also when you were living at his doorsteps, this means the price is not $ 1595 but $ 1595 + $ 595 = $ 2190[/b] . \:D

A very happy 2009 to everyone and a lot of enlightening discussions on this forum in the year to come!

schwammerl.
