Does anyone happen to know, or can point me to a link on how to change Piano keys on a Roland HP 1800?
I have about 8 keys I need to change, and would like some guidance on how to change these keys.
I am fairly mechanically inclined, But some insite on how to open the case, and how to remove the keys would be helpful.
Also The "G" above middle C is very loud. I wonder what it takes to get to the contacts and clean them.
These keys are not like My RD 500, they were pretty easy to change. Well it was the hammers that broke, but you still had to take the keys out.
Any information?
Please don't tell me to take it somewhere.

You could contact the local Roland in your country and possibly get your hands on service diagrams and parts.

You can find your country at www.roland.com, go to the local website and make contact from there.

Rolands website already stated they do not offer that type of service.

Unfortunately I'm involved in the sales and marketing aspect, and not the service aspect of the instruments. So I really would have nothing useful to contribute on the opening up the piano and replacing components end of things.

If you can't get the service diagrams, your best bet might be to get it to an authorized repair centre near you who has access to these diagrams and pay them to do the work.

1st of all, the nearest service center is in Pittsburgh, I am in Wheeling.
2nd it is too heavy for me to handle alone, and I have no one to help me.
3rd, I have been a mechanic for 40 years, I do not intend to Pay someone to do the work.
I will just tear into it, and play it by ear.

3 screws along each side on the bottom, 2 screws above each hinge in the back, 6 screws on bottom for the front trim piece, and there were some screws for the trim piece inside.
Screws about 6 holding little wire loops to hold wire to keyboard.
Some screws holding the keyboard down from inside, some on outside were missing, someone was here before.

Actually I was wrong, there are 6 screws that hold the front trim piece on, these share double duty as they also hold down the front of the keyboard assby.

Had to take the keyboard assby. out all together, and there are these sort of buttons, or plastic spot on the keys, (from the bottom) you push down on and slide key out. New key slides right in and Pops into place.
I replaced 6 keys tonight, I hope more do not break. I am waiting for 1 more key from Roland. A "C" note. It was back ordered.
The keys were only about $5.00, and shipping was only about $6.00.
They were real reasonable.

You can see, he says if you remove the key, you can clean the contacts. I asked him about it. I have to look into it better.

I have a nice RD 500, all the hammers were replaced free by Roland.
I don't know, I brought this HP 1800 at an auction to fool around with. It was an local on line auction, and I did not notice the keys before I bid.
It does not seem to have a bad sound to it.
It was made in I think 1993 to 1996. So It is a good sampled sound.

Well, cleaned contacts, Now it seems like the "D" above middle C is doing the loud thing. Getting a little disgusted with this thing.
It is a good bit of work taking the keyboard out, and removing the keys to get to the contacts.
There is another You Tube video showing how they took these keys out from the top, but I can't seem to master it, and I don't want to break the keys. They make it look so easy.
If I could get them right out from the top, I could do it with the keyboard assby. in place.

I might call Roland and price the contact strip for that section.

anybody know if the contact strip from another model would fit my HP 1800?
Or could be made to work?
Don't know what could be so different about them?
