Does anyone know where the score of the Busoni piano concerto can be found? I have looked all over the place and have not found anyone who publishes it.

Are you willing to spend nearly $200 so that you don't have to print it out yourself from IMSLP? It is in the public domain after all.

@Polyphonist,

I bought this score from Breitkopf & Hartel directly and you can, also:

It is not $200 ... it is $145.32 when you put "1" in the "quantity" field and the "amount" is translated from 105,00 (or, "105") Euros to $145.32. You can then click "proceed to checkout" and fill in your info. The shipping cost will be added when you complete the order.

This is one of the greatest piano concertos in the literature (and certainly one of the longest) and here is a monumental performance by Marc-Andre Hamelin:

And, another great performance by John Ogdon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMVLBzseJgY

The advantage to the Hamelin video is that you get to watch the pianist in action - throughout the entire hour and ten minutes of playing time.

I often shop at Presto Classical (UK based) and they have it at around 122 USD. There's also a study score, with the orchestral score (not a second piano transcription) at around 27 USD.

How funny to see this concerto mentioned just now - heard it performed two nights ago in Helsinki...first time I heard it live - what a piece!

Indeed, it is a very great piece. I have fond memories of seeing Peter Donohoe play it some years back in London. Took my breath away! (Reminds me of when I first saw Elektra.)

I have seven recordings, but I still think the first studio recording with Ogdon is the benchmark for this piece. I would love to have heard Petri play it, not to mention Busoni himself.

Lucky me, I have both the orchestral score and the two piano score- thanks to a couple kind-hearted mates. heart

I thought you didn't like pieces with a lot of notes?

Yes, and, two of my favorite sections from this amazing composition include the tolling bell-like chord theme from the "Pezzo serioso" third movement:

And, the unbelievable double chord and octave section which continues on for five pages and requires considerable technique:

The quality of the two images above appear to have been compromised when uploading to imgur.com so anyone can view a good copy of the entire concerto here, instead:

Busoni: Piano Concerto

The two piano score (with cadenza) is included.

Polyphonist, I actually photocopied the entire two-piano reduction a few years ago before it was available online (if it is? I haven't checked)

I really love this piece!
