I saw this piano in real-life, when I visited (I have a picture I took myself of it, but it's much easier to point to a picture via a URL, than post one in the image forum and link to it) - it's on the ground floor of Canton tower, in Guangzhou, China.

Anybody know any more about it?

They wouldn't let me play it when I was there!

The Chinese are doing what the Japanese did in the 60`s when they copied British motorbikes and developed them several stages further . . .that is progress I suppose.

Does that piano fold up so you can carry it in a hatchback? (compact car lol)

No, but it doubles as a car spoiler:

Don't know - I've got family that live in that region, I suspect when one of the group asked if I could play it, there may have been something of a language barrier anyways.

I should have been more attentive at the time - in my defence, it was my first morning there, and I was a bit a jet-lagged. I've got a picture of it, myself, but it's almost exactly the same angle as this one.

It's an interesting concept to say the least. I was curious because sometimes at auto shows manufacturers show concept vehicles which are not working examples. Thanks for sharing it anyway.

As far as I know it wasn't part of any sort of exhibition or other collection of instruments, I think it's just on permanent display.

I think it's a working piano. It clearly has a proper plate in it, has rods going to the pedals, a proper keyboard. I doubt they would go to all that trouble and not make it functional. I've seen plenty of pianos like this and they were all functional pianos. They basically just take the basic rim/plate/action structure and build a different housing around it.
