I have a VPC-1 on a K&M Omega stand and have a really inexpensive, small and wobbly X type keyboard bench with a book on top to bring my (compressed) height to 19.5" which seems about right.

As this is a permanent home studio setup, I want a better, comfortable bench which does not have to be portable. Thus, I'd rather have a traditional bench style than X type keyboard seat.

I am aware of the K&M (Omega) matching bench, but it is very expensive, and there appear to be several more traditional and more comfortable looking units out there for less money. It only needs to be adjusted once, so I don't need the hydraulic mechanisms.

After some searching online and on this forum I note there are several 'CPS' brand benches for reasonable cost. Can anyone attest to the quality? Is it worth the 'leather' or 'pillowtop' upgrades (they seem to get generally heavier with these upgrades too, so perhaps more stable?)? Any others to consider for a budget under, say $250?

Regards,
db

I bought a piano bench from CPS a couple of months ago. It was the Ebony Duet Size Leather Adjustable Artist Piano Bench. The quality is good for the price range. I've never tried one of the more expensive benches so I can't make a direct comparison, but the fit and finish are high enough quality and it appears the bench will last a long time. The only two minor drawbacks to this particular bench model are that the cushioning isn't very thick and that the bench had a pretty strong chemical/rubber smell out of the box that took a few weeks to dissipate.

I have 2 Jensen benches at home and a CPS in my office. The CPS benches are definitely made with less padding and cheaper leather, but are a good value if you don't want to pay for a Jensen. Be careful though, because mine leaked oil from the gears when I first got it. I had it on a white carpet and it left a pool of oil the size of a quarter. Just wipe down the gears underneath for excess oil.
