Hello everyone!

I ran through this prelude a while ago, And here's my attempt :

http://youtu.be/wEq7mGWBgkI

I understand that this is far from being justifiable yet I felt the urge to share it here and get some tips/criticism/suggestions for improvements. I am self taught.

Thanks!

You don't give us much to go on, as you've recorded only the first 10 measures of the piece, but the first thing you need to do is get your time values right.

The very first two notes, the A and G-sharp, set the tempo, one beat per note. The low C-sharp, then, needs four full beats at the same tempo (all of measure one plus a half of the first beat of measure two)*.

In the following measures, beats three and four are longer than beats one and two, so whatever momentum you have established at the beginning of these measures is lost on beats three and four.

I suggest you get out your metronome - or get one if you don't have one - and learn to play in strict time.

You also played a wrong chord on beat two of measure nine. It's a G-sharp octave in the right hand not an E octave.

From the little I've heard, you will have a great deal to learn about phrasing. At the moment, the successive chords in measures six and seven don't have any shape or direction to them; they come across as just a series of unrelated chords, rather than as a smooth melodic line leading somewhere.

Where's the rest of the Prelude?

* When counting measures, one starts with the first complete measure so the half measure opening with the A and G-sharp, is not counted.

Regards,

Thanks for such a meaningful insight, Bruce!

Yes , I need to work upon a lot of stuff. As I am self taught, I have no one to tell me these invaluable tips which make/break a piece.

Thanks again for your time and thoughts. Would work on it again and share with you people for the feedback!
