Missed my first day this year two days ago (Friday). Just feeling under the weather and didn't have the energy or gumption to do any playing.....

But I was back on the bench on Saturday and will get to it again today, right after I click on "Submit".

Sorry to bother you casinitaly, but I will have to be excused on 16-20 April only, not 6-20, can you change that please? wink

My wrist's feeling a lot better, & I decided I'd try playing a bit. I managed 2 hanon exercises & then it started to complain so maybe that's enough for one day. Might try a bit more a little bit later today, & definitely will do a bit more tomorrow.

Do away with Hanon altogether. Best to just play through some easy pieces for now. Hanon's really only good if you have someone watching how you're playing it anyways to make sure you don't injure yourself.

Hi Morodiene,
Until recently I'd been playing Hanon as part of my regular lessons & practice for about the last 2 years up to about exercise 28 or so. My teacher's really picky about hand, wrist position etc. so I thought it'd be OK to do couple of the 1st ones. The injury I'm recovering from is a sprained wrist from a fall a couple of weeks ago - I just wanted to get my hand working a bit & Hanon was at the top of the pile so I played 1 & 2. But I'm really frustrated at not being able to play these past 2 weeks. My teacher's away for 6 weeks, & I was using the time to go through all my old pieces, deciding which ones I wanted to refresh (&, surprisingly, finding a couple I could still play even though I hadn't looked at them for a year or more), sorting through ALL my sheet music... & I was really enjoying it, & then BAM! My hand feels a bit stiff & sort of - clumsy? - but I hope that's partly from not using it & keeping it mostly supported for 2 weeks. But I won't push it - just 5 minutes or so a day to start. & I need to get out the pieces I was working on before my teacher left - he's coming back in a couple of weeks & I need to be able to play them respectably!

I got my recorder out this morning too - hadn't played it for years, but I remember once after I'd had surgery on my thumb, the physio said playing would be good exercise for it. & last night I was at a chamber music concert with a lot of clarinet & bassoon, & since I have no idea how to play either of those, recorder's as close as I could come. However, I think I'm going to wait till I can get a friend who plays to check my hand position for me - I really am very out of practice with it.

Warm & sunny here - blossoms everywhere!

Ah, I was in a car accident many moons ago and sprained my wrist really badly. It had to be immobilized for about 6 weeks, and when the splint came off it looked like something that died and came back to life a zombie. I still remember trying to play piano and how easily fatigued it would get.

Are you doing any physical therapy? That helped me a lot to recover. Take it slow, your teacher will understand your situation and not be upset. Most students don't practice while they aren't having lessons, but you have an excuse smile

Just back from three lovely days in Toronto. No access to a piano, but my teacher asked me to put my current pieces on my iPod and listen to them, which I did. Very motivational. I'm heading to the bench right now!

Cas..... I confess... I have not been able to miss a day yet.
I promise! Just like I promised Morodiene. I have a whopper of an excuse already. Involving the Titanic, dramatic disaster, and how I'm the greatest (translate stupidest) player in the world.

Please excuse me for Sat the 12th. All day doing my income taxes. This resulted in a vicious headache first followed by a nasty case of coffee jitters. crazy Back on track today though. Thanks...

I shall be gone Sat 19th back on Tues 22nd. Off to my first's son's first son's baby shower - hoping to play Brahms Lullaby as a surprise. He doesn't have a piano so I took a mini iPad video!
ps, are we meant to sign back in - I didn't after last trip so see I'm on the excused list since Feb - that's a whole lot of excuses I didn't have!

Palmpirate, once you go in the excused list, you never come off - the date that is there reflects the last date you were excused, not that you have been off since that date smile

Congrats on the soon to be , or new, arrival!

Hmm, I will be migrating back north in a couple of weeks...I wonder how I can manage to play a little piano on the road? I'm pretty sure my DP will be well-packed in and no way to access it until we unload. I can play before we leave on Friday morning, but we will be staying overnight somewhere in Tennessee. The places we stay at there's no access to pianos, and it's usually late enough at night that piano stores (if they are anywhere to be found) are closed.

Excused or not I really want to avoid not playing, partially because I don't want to miss a day, but also partially because I want to remain unblemished on my record here! Any suggestions? Any stops along the way will be limited to gas stations and truck stops. Might be unavoidable. frown

If you are sure there aren't pianos where you're staying, then why not try to pack the DP as the very last thing so you can pull it out at the end of the day's drive?
I don't see how you can do it otherwise...?

I understand wanting to keep your record... I've never managed it for a whole year.
I hope you can keep your record!
