I was going to mention this on the thread about the Bechstein 8 but didn't want to be accused of hijacking the thread.

In a 1907 catalogue I have seen a model 7 listed at quite a bit more money than the 8. It is 4' 5.5" high and is advertised as an "upright drawing room grand".

Does anybody know anything about this model?

I'm not sure that it is all that well known. I sure don't have a clue. In the US, at least, Bechstein is not all that common.

Steinway is the best known in the UK, next Yamaha, then Bosendofer and Fazioli.

Bechstein and Bluthner are known amongst musicians and concert goers but not the general public.

Sorry, Philip, the only big Bechstein upright I'm familiar with is the Concert 8.

Joe mentioned that Bechstein would be known among British musicians and concertgoers, but not among the general public. That's true here in the U.S. as well. (I second Sir Marty's opinion. wink ) However, if one goes back prior to World War II, Bechstein was well-known enough for Cole Porter to cite a "Bechstein grand" in one of the many stanzas for "You're the Top".
