(I'm talking only about their amateur competition. I know they do several others, and have no idea about those.)

It's definitely got some shady aspects to it, and questionable judging procedures. Then again, what can you expect when a whole competition is based off a single recording where anybody can send it anything? I'm also turned off the the guy's "service" on their website to "critique" any recording people send him for a fee of $100.
