Good evening Piano World members,
I am a rank beginner who picked up the piano a few months ago. To learn I use a very simple (yet usable) Yamaha PS-3 synth.

Long story short, I yesterday I managed to finish learning "Impertinence" by Hšndel (link the recording I took) (link to the public domain score, if you need it).

I am happy with the result, but as a beginner with no teacher to look for hints, I guess I have no idea of what I am doing.
So this I am asking to you: can you listen to it (it's quite short, less than two minutes) and tell me if there is something horribly wrong with how I am playing? Any kind of directions would be appreciated, really!

Thanks, I hope to keep learning and become good (and possibly one day to contribute back)!

It sounds very good to me. No, nothing's horribly wrong, though I'm not a fan of the timbre of your synth.

Ornamentation is one of those things that's really grounded in the period of music under consideration. If you don't have an authoritative source that you've listened to and emulated, you might wiki some articles on trills to double-check you're playing trills according to the Baroque style.

Note accuracy and timing are pretty good. And the ornamentation was appropriate I thought, a slight bit uneven in the trills but how many beginners would even attempt trills smile It's hard to tell anything else about your playing besides notes and timing since you chose a synth with no dynamic variation -- so we can't evaluate touch or line or sound quality or anything else. Do make sure you're practicing regularly on something where if you hit the key harder, it plays louder, and if you hit the key more gently it plays softer. That way you can develop as a musician, not just hitting notes in the right order! Keep at it and enjoy the journey smile

Thanks Whizbang & hreichgott, You have no idea how much your comments reassured me!

Indeed as you guessed, the synth I am using is more of a toy than anything else (obligatory pic of the monster).
I chose a baroque piece because it was probably meant to be played on a harpsichord, hence w/o dynamic variations (which my keyboard is uncapable of).

Thanks for the input! I will research trills and try to get my paws on a less toyish keyboard in the future!

Consider a full 88-key keyboard with weighted keys that simulate the action of a piano. And one that has a piano voice that you like.

A Yamaha 105 is a good beginner choice, I think. That's a digital grand piano though (focus is on piano), so if you like organ sounds, harpsichords, and other tones, like choral voices, you would be interested in some other model.

Go visit your local music store and ask questions! Tell them what you are interested in.
