Hello to whomever reads this. Hopefully someone will read this and know what is going on. I have a old Technics Digital piano PX224/M. Recently I was able to get piano lessons which I enjoy very much. However for some reason when I play my piano it causes my ears to pulsate and throb. With each note played my ears feel it. I had my hearing checked and my hearing is good except for one very high tone.
Does anyone know what I'm experiencing? It only happens when I play my piano. When I play my teachers Grand piano it does not happen. It is so bad that I can not continue to play. It boarders on painful. It's really a bummer because I have come a very long way in learning how to play. Thank you, in advance.

Hi Akamat,

That's definitely an unusual problem.
Does that happen both when you play your piano through the speakers and through headphones?

If it happens with headphones, you might just need to play with a lower volume.

In case it happens with the speakers, you might be hearing strong acoustic resonances from your room. To check for this case you could try to temporarily move the piano to a different place (at least 1.5-2m away from the walls) and see whether the issue disappears.

Ciao,
Paolo

Very strange . . .

If you're in a city that has music stores, try this:

. . . Play a few different brands of digital pianos, and see if they hurt
. . . your ears;

. . . Play a few acoustic pianos, and see if they hurt your ears.

I don't know the Technics piano that you own. I haven't heard any digital piano that was _so bad_ that it hurt _my_ ears.

hmmm.. Sounds like the frequencies are messing with you. As suggested, try to narrow the problem to the speakers, headphones or DP itself. Maybe also try adjusting the EQ to de-emphasize certain frequencies. Good luck.. let us know how it works out.

My guess it's headphones in general that is causing the sensation. I get it too in my left ear with earbuds as I listen to audiobooks, so I have to be careful of the volume I listen at. You may need to do some/all practice with the headphones off.
