Wanted to say I used that, put some powder in the tuning pin's box, and I could perceive the difference, the touch and feel of the tuning pin is better, no cracking but a little more controlled.

I am on a medium quality modern block and did do the colophon thing after a few pins where inserted so I could notice the difference.

Used that to mount a bass string set this afternoon.

You can work without gloves, also, in that case, the hands are dry. just avoid touching the strings too much.
Colophon powder is used to make varnishes. I guess the other name is "rosin".

Regards

We used to soak our new tuning pins in an alcohol and rosin solution prior the stringing. I think it works well. I stopped doing it with the german tuning pins. They turn smooth enough without it.
