Hello, very new to this forum. Can someone please tell me the price range of a Steinway 1983 Model A Hamburg piano? We are beginning the selling process. Besides not knowing where to start (Craigslist, Ebay...), an idea of the price to ask would be great. To me it looks to be in excellent condition, but we have contacted a piano technician to get the piano tuned, and find out its condition. We have owned it for 12 years, bought it for my son who has since stopped playing  It was purchased from the son of its original owner as part of her estate and not used much (according to him) it has been a great piano, it is all original. Has anyone had luck selling on Craigslist? or Ebay?

There is no way anyone here can advise you on a fair selling price. You need to hire a local piano technician to come to your home and appraise the value for you based on the many factors of the piano's condition that go into an accurate appraisal. It should be easy to find a tech to do this as it's routine work for them.
If you want that advice here you'll get what you pay for:)

You are not selling a run of the mill piano. Before you list anything, have the piano tuned and inspected and have an appraisal done by a pro who knows your market area. It could be a thousands of dollars mistake if you are not well informed before you market the piano.

And please don't use Craig's List or Ebay for this sale. You will be wasting time with a lot of folks who are cluelesss bargain hunters. Get one or two high-end technicians or piano sales people to give you a sense of this instrument's value.
And don't expect a quick sale at a fair price. You'll need patience. Or else sell it on consignment via a good dealer.

Zelda - while a piano technician may be able to evaluate the piano's condition, that doesn't necessarily mean that he or she is able to provide meaningful input as to its retail value. I see this recommendation often on this forum (find a tech in order to determine the retail value). If you are dealing with a technician who is also in the business of selling pianos - and if this tech gives you an actual number - ask him or her if they would personally give you that amount. Ask if they have sold a similar piano for that amount. Ask the last time they saw a similar piano sell for that amount.
When it comes to servicing a piano - or determining the condition of a piano, a qualified technician can provide meaningful information. When it comes to selling a piano, I would seek input for a reputable, qualified individual or business primarily engaged in the business of selling pianos. Further, I would recommend that you look for examples of similar pianos being offered for sale in your area; that will give you an idea of what others are at least attempting to sell these instruments for.
