I've been playing for close to four years and the Alfred Books are not giving me a proper challenge, wondering if anyone has suggestions?

I'm currently working with pieces from "The notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach". I'm finding the pieces very interesting, and challenging enough to keep me motivated. I'm in a very Bach place right now and these pieces are perfect for me.

If you've been playing for 4 years, then these shouldn't challenge you too much, see if they are to your taste. Try the minuets by Petzold, I enjoyed learning the G major minuet. I'll be starting on the G minor soon.

You could try visiting www.pianosyllabus.com choosing a composer you like and seeing what they have at grade 3 or 4 or whatever is appropriate for you. There's YouTube links so you can hear how each piece sounds.

It's a charming piece, and if you have a DP, it goes nicely with the organ voice. Not long after I learned it, while on a brief holiday, I wandered into what I thought was a disused church by a lakeside, and found an organ there. It was electronic, and it was working and connected to the church loudspeaker system. As there was no one around, I sat down at it and played the little G Minor minuet, and hearing it break into life and echo around the walls of the empty church was quite eerie and very atmospheric.
