Hello all, I am interested in knowing what style or genre this piano player is playing in this song:

To me it sounds like an organ or some kind of electronic keyboard, but i really enjoy the sound and or style it makes. I would like to learn how to play this some of style on piano, it might be jazz or blues, I have no idea.

If any of you can figure out what style it sounds like and or what genre then that could be of great help to me as i want to learn how to play in that style

-Thanks a lot.

The keyboard sounds like a Rhodes or a Rhodes-like instrument.

This particular piece of music is rather simple harmonically speaking and if you removed all the repeated part it would be a very short piece indeed.

If you're interested in learning how to play in that style, study with someone who plays for a living.

To save you some time, there are no shortcuts, you really have to learn the basics. If you don't learn the basics you could turn out to be a one trick pony.

There ain't no shortcuts. smile

Sounded really great, sort of modern blues feel to it. Definitely Blues idiom. but might have a more refined search term. Good luck, man!

Fender Rhodes electric piano with overdrive. It's a kind of slow funk groove with shades of old style soul/R&B.

Sounds like a distorted rock organ.

Yep, it's a Rhodes with some overdrive. Not so difficult, but still quite a nice groove.

Drum break sounds like it was sampled from this:

I believe the genre is funk which is an off shoot of R&B. It was popularized in the seventies but actually began in the sixties with black artists. James Brown is recognized as the God father of soul and the main inventor of funk.

The tune, if you can actually call it one, is pretty basic pop keyboard. A beginner should be able to learn to play this with out too much trouble. Getting into the groove might be more difficult.
