Anyone have experience or knowledge of using one of the low cost midi keyboards with drawbars with an iPad running sample tank and/or garage band? I'm wondering if the manual draw bars on the keyboard can work the digital drawbars on either of these software programs.

Any particular make/models good for this? Novation, m-audio, Akai? I saw several 61 key in GC for <$200 that if they worked with a iPad could be a good low cost alternative to Roland VR-09.

Thanks.

Hi, the Garage Band (for iPad) drawbars cannot be controlled via MIDI, Sample Tank organs are sampled so they have no drawbars

My experience with M-audio oxygen and ipad garange band / sample tank is that just the octave shift works, nothing else that I remember. I don't know if there is a way to assign some faders etc. I still have this keyboard home (not mine, I have to give it back to a friend, but he is not there this month, so not soon), so if needed I can test something specific, but again out of the box only octave shift seems to work...

http://thomcochrane.typepad.com/blog/2011/03/garageband-for-ipad-midi-messages-and-key-mappings.html

"Midi messages supported so far: CC 1 Modulation (in keyboard, for synths etc) CC 7 Current Track volume (only works in instrument mode, not in arrangement mode) CC 8 Current track pan (only works in instrument mode, not in arrangement mode) CC 64 Sustain Pedal Channel Aftertouch Pitch Bend"

I have not observed changes in new releases of GB for iOS

Instead of GarageBand or SampleTank as the app, use Galileo, it will do what you want.

There are a couple of other organ apps that have this feature as well, but Galileo is the best of the bunch.

Thanks all. I will check out Galilleo. The 3 controllers I'm looking at are:

Alesis QX61 61-key USB MIDI Controller
M-Audio Oxygen 61
Novation Launchkey 61
