I had no idea what I was aiming for when I did this.

Click me to see music
(note its a little sloppily notated, I haven't "prepped" it up yet)

I worked about a few days on it, 75% throwing random notes together and seeing what popped out. Any suggestions are welcome. Please reserve all posts to discussion of the music please

Here is an mp3, since I don't know whether or not whatever I concocted is playable or not.

I can't see your score - it's super-tiny and faint. I'd be interested to look if you can fix that. smile (or is it a problem at my end?)

(Just by the way, abstract, dissonant and random are not at all the same things, though they may overlap.)

Just click the score to remedy that issue.

The score itself, however...

Yeah, they overlap for the sake of this song.

Thank you other poster(s) for your meaningful, constructive advice.

Yeah, they're good at that, aren't they...

This is the problem, I think. Maybe you did really have an aim after all, and that was to see what happens when you throw random notes around. It's sometimes a good start, but you then need to look at what you have and do something with it. Shape it, in other words. Play and listen - is there any progression with your discords, say, from least discordant to most and back again (thus creating tension/resolution)? Are there some chords you (accidentally) found that you like the sound of? Having listened to the result do you think there's a mood you have created, even if it wasn't your original idea? You could then work on that. Your rhythmic structure certainly isn't abstract (whatever you mean by that) - it's basically something Mozart could have used, but you don't necessarily want your piece to sound like Mozart having a nightmare. Or perhaps do you? It's your piece after all. laugh

I suppose the main thing I'm trying to say is that a dissonant piece needs to be as carefully crafted as any other. You want some sort of plan, and you want to listen and judge the sound.
Having said all that, I haven't looked at it carefully or listened to the recording. They were just general comments. smile

There are a few points in this piece that I shine, as opposed to a lot of it which are random notes flying around. I particularly like measures 17-24, the end, and measures 1-15. I guess the aim I sort of had in mind when I started was a never-ending strain of 16th notes, like a "constantly-moving" hands thing that you would have seen in something like Solfeggietto. It got a little out of control though... I tried to crescendo to a point where I thought was the climax of the piece, but at that point it had devolved into such a huge mess there really wasn't anything special there.

As for the mood, I am imagining like a fast-forward fast paced morning for someone in New York or any other major city, maybe dropping a coffee here and there or impatiently waiting for endless traffic... Abstract was probably not the best word for me to use. It was "abstract" to me at that point but.... probably not so lol

Thank you for your comments, I'll be sure to refer back when I revamp this piece !
