Hello,

I learn to play the piano with a teacher 4, 5 months now.
-Sight-reading
-rythm clapping
-Singing traids
-easy finger coordination excercices
-Circle of fifth
etc

Would it be helpfull to add doing this on my own @home " Four Star four star sight reading method" series?
Good recommendations/experiences with this serie?

It sounds like your teacher does a good job. If you want to do this why don't propose it to your teacher? When you do it without him/her knowing it will probably interfere with your normal assignments.

Four Star is very good and I find it really does the job in both sight-reading and aural training. My suggestion is that when the book asks you to sing the third, fifth, forth, sixth note above or below the note on the page that you do this, actually sing. Over time, it trains your ability to identify intervals really well. Unfortunately it was written with children's singing range so it took a long time to be able to sing so high. You could play one octave lower to adjust. Very good resource. I already bought every level to 10! The sight-reading exercises in level 9 and 10 are crazy. It's like straight out of level 7 repertoire. So far, for level 5 for me, very easy if you start at level 1 and work your way up along with your repertoire level.

You do the exercises at home, then you bring the book to your teacher to complete the test from the back of the book each week. It works. Highly recommend.

Since you have a teacher, ask your teacher. You want to make sure that how and what you study is compatible with the training your teacher gives you.

And as you work on this skill with your teacher, he or she will gain more information about what sort of learner you are and what works for you.

I wonder why it's Four Star and not Five Star.

Because it's Canadian and they are more modest than Americans? grin

Why not call it the "Fairly Good But Slightly Mediocre Sight Reading Method"? grin
