I was sent this Youtube link by the musician as we are both working on Philip Glass pieces. The entire video just blew me away.

Thank you for sharing that. It is hypnotically lovely.

I used to think that the good life was one that accomplished something beautiful. Now I think that it can just as easily be one that inspires someone else to do something beautiful for you.

Oh, I loved that, Peyton! Thanks for sharing. This is one of my all-time favorite Glass pieces. And I liked watching the hammers or mallets or whatever you call those things... it makes the 3 against 2 polyrhythm visually clear in an interesting way. (I noticed, however, that he didn't seem to have a way to hit the bottom whole note that accompanies all the measures... unless he's doing something with his feet we're not seeing.)

I like how it sounds on harp, too. smile

I'm really glad you listened and liked. I think it's not just "hypnotically lovely" (a perfect description) but it's just such a wonderful tribute to a friend that passed away.

I got the (piano) sheet music for this piece a number of years ago - years after I first stopped and years before properly restarting. The polyrhythms were completely beyond me then, but after listening to this (and googling how to play polyrhythms ...) I dug it out last night and gave it a go. It's definitely well within my capability now, so it's firmly on the to do list.

I just focused on the mallets as they strike the instrument at around 1:25 - 2:50 ... pretty amazing the control it requires to pull off this Glass composition. Getting the sounds down that he wanted then getting it on paper boggles my mind ... hope it was easier than it looks and sounds.

Same here. I had never heard it before and just downloaded the music.
